CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
The value of a fireplace in the home is considerable. Offering comfort and style, it is a worthwhile investment that needs to be looked after!
- Cleaning your Surround
For regular marble cleaning, wipe surround over with a damp cloth. A specialist marble polish can be applied once or twice a year to restore shine.
Surrounds made of wood will be sealed either with lacquer or wax. For general care, wipe surround over with either a damp cloth or a lint-free cloth together with household furniture polish.
- Cleaning your Electric Fire
To preserve the life of your new Be Modern electric fire, it is important it is regularly cleaned (at least once a month) following the guidelines below:
- Before commencing any cleaning, disconnect or switch off the appliance at the mains switch. If the fire has been switched on previously, allow it to cool before cleaning.
- The metal casing of the fire should be wiped with a lint-free soft damp cloth. Avoid using any detergents, chemical cleaners or wax polishes as these may damage or dull the surface. If this does not work, apply a small amount of baby oil to a lint-free cloth and wipe over the metal casing. Polish any excess oil off with a clean lint-free cloth.
- We recommend that you regularly clean the outlet grille of the fan heater located under the fire canopy. This can be done using a standard vacuum cleaner and suitable soft brush attachment.
- The area around the fire should be kept clean. Materials such as lint or house dust should be kept to a minimum (i.e. animal hair / carpet fibres) to avoid them being drawn into the internal workings of the appliance and affecting its performance.
Please note: The warranty on this product may be invalid if you fail to maintain it in accordance with the above guidelines.
- Cleaning your Gas Fire
To preserve the life of your new Be Modern gas fire, it is important it is cared for following the guidelines below:
- Before commencing any cleaning, turn the fire off. The appliance will retain heat for some time after it has been on, therefore set aside plenty of time to allow it to cool properly.
- Light coating of soot is expected on the burner compartment walls as a result of using the fire. If the coating becomes excessive the fuel effect pieces (coal or pebble) and burner compartment walls should be removed for cleaning. The fuel effect pieces (coal or pebble) and burner compartment walls contain Refractory Ceramic Fibres (RCF), which are man-made vitreous silicate fibres. Excessive exposure to these materials may cause temporary irritation to eyes, skin and respiratory tract; consequently, it makes sense to take care when handling these articles to ensure that the release of dust is kept to a minimum.
- The fuel effect pieces and burner compartment walls should be cleaned using a soft brush in a well ventilated area or in the open air. Brushing should be in an outward motion away from the face to avoid inhaling the dust.
- The burner should be cleaned with a dry soft brush to remove any dust or soot deposits. Care should be taken not to brush particles into the small burner hole. Do not poke wires or any other small article into the small burner holes.
- We recommend that you use a HEPA filtered vacuum to clean up any dust and soot accumulated in the fire, as a normal domestic vacuum is likely to blow the dust back into the air. The area around the fire should also be vacuumed.
- When re-fitting the fire please refer to the installation instructions for guidance.
- Excessive debris or soot forming regularly on the fire could indicate a problem with the flue or fire, which should be reported to your landlord for investigation and repair.
IMPORTANT Regular Gas Fire Maintenance
To ensure high levels of personal safety and performance efficiency it is essential the opening at the back of the fire and the flue are kept clear of any form of obstruction. If a flue becomes blocked or restricted dangerous exhaust gases will not be safely removed from the home.By law in the UK, all landlords are required to have any gas appliance, flue and pipework which is situated in tenant’s premises should be checked for safety at least every twelve months by a Gas Safety registered engineer.
